Data sources and privacy

Public road and weather data

Road status comes from state traveler-information feeds; weather context comes from NOAA and USDA services. Every status page links to the authoritative source and explains what is not covered.

Archived records

Changed road snapshots and derived transitions are retained to build a season history. Moving snowplow positions are current context only and are not stored as a movement history.

Email requests

An alert form stores the email address, requested road or destination, bounded date window, confirmation state and operational send history. After confirmation, the service may send a T-1 briefing, durable road-status changes after a stability delay, and an in-window closeout. Trip windows are capped at 14 days and season requests expire April 30. There is no forever option, no newsletter or unrelated marketing, and no sale or rental of addresses. Cloudflare processes the stored request and Amazon Web Services processes confirmation and road-notification email solely to operate this service.

Tracking and monetization

On the Sacramento–Reno route and Donner Pass page, we count visits and clicks to official reports and cameras by day and page group. These counters do not store IP addresses, visitor identifiers, query strings or browser histories, and use no cookies or browser storage. They respect browser Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals. Aggregate alert request and confirmation counts are separate from the private information needed to operate your requested alerts. Delivery records distinguish sent, failed, deferred and skipped messages; acceptance by the email service does not prove inbox delivery.

No advertising or affiliate monetization is active at launch. The site does not need behavioral advertising to provide its core service.
